I had some requests for the following poem which I read during my sermon on contentment, so I thought I'd just make it available on the website. I pray that it blesses you. :)

The Ladder
By Micah Dalbey
June 3, 2009

The pursuit of wealth is like a man who decided to climb a ladder…

A man started to climb with his goal in mind,
all the rungs were within his view.
Imagining all he’d have at the top,
his desire to climb grew and grew.

But the faster he climbed and the closer he got,
the further he seemed from all he once sought,
till the weary belaboring man had a thought:
“What if all this is a sinister plot?!”

It was at this point the man lifted his eyes,
to see high above, a creature disguised
The sign on its chest read “wealth & possessions”
But upon its face was a mocking expression

The man stopped his climb just in time
to catch the creature in a cruel crime
It was adding rungs to the ladder’s top…
But alas, the creature could not be stopped

So the creature kept building & the man just climbed
Until one day, he ran out of time.
His dreams, goals, desires and plans
Were no closer to him than when he began.

“When the wicked dies, his hope will perish, and the expectation of wealth perishes too.”  Proverbs 11:7
